The Manser Practice were appointed by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to design a new theatre facility at St Luke’s Hospital, Bradford, to reduce the back-log of patients waiting for surgery following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Designed as a ‘day case’ unit for outpatients requiring full operating theatre facilities and / or a general anaesthetic, two theatres provide over 5000 operations a year, with the potential for this to double when the building is expanded with an additional two theatres in the future.
The £19 Million building has been designed with the Trust’s expert clinical and estates teams to create a circular patient pathway, enhanced experience, and the most efficient clinical environment for staff to deliver operations quickly and effectively under one roof.
A fast track construction method was employed, using off-site modular units to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Generous landscape buffer zones create 31% biodiversity net gain, improve the experience and privacy of patients, and help contribute to the building’s BREEAM Excellent rating.
