Armstrong House

A classic modern movement house arranged around courtyards

After purchasing their dream plot of land close to their existing house in Cheam, Surrey, the clients approached The Manser Practice to design a bungalow that maximised daylight and allowed future reconfiguration. The solution was a U shaped house with a south-facing courtyard garden. Full height glazing wraps around this courtyard while the outer facades are constructed from flint brickwork with small openings – increasing privacy and reducing noise levels.

Like many early Manser houses, the exposed steel frame allows a large open plan living area with sliding screens designed to aid future flexibility.
