Montcalm Hotel and Spa

5* boutique hotel and spa refurbishment

Built in 1787, The Montcalm was originally a graceful Georgian residence on a quiet crescent in central London. In the 1970’s the building was converted into a hotel, resulting in the loss of all of the original interiors but retaining the classical façade. The Manser Practice was commissioned by the new owners in 2008 to transform the tired and dated interiors to create a five star boutique hotel.

We worked with the proportions of the Grade II listed existing façade to produce spaces which relate to the original building, realised in a simple and contemporary palette.

The 142 guestrooms were completely refurbished and the luxurious wet rooms were divided from the bedrooms by full height glass screens. The ground floor now accommodates an elegant lobby and reception area alongside the restaurant and bar. We enclosed an existing courtyard to form a new restaurant space. Distinctive oval roof lights punctuate the green roof of this lightweight extension, flooding the dining space with natural light. An existing basement level has been converted into a stylish spa.
