Compact Living debate with U+I Plc

On 10th July, we held a ‘study tour’ event with Ab Rogers Design, in collaboration with New London Architecture.

It gave visitors a chance to view the two to-scale and fully-functioning compact living prototypes designed for U+I’s London headquarters.

Jonathan Manser and Ab Rogers spoke to the audience about why compact living should be an available lifestyle choice despite the draft London Plan’s safeguarding of space standards. It was really interesting to note that a lot of people didn’t previously understand that accepting compact living as an option didn’t mean that they would be forced to live there but rather that it would be one option suited to a specific type of audience.

At the end of the event, we recorded a 26% increase in attendees voting in favour of compact living. This is a great start to our campaign for compact living which will call for designers and architects to ‘start rattling the cage’.
