Origins of The Manser Practice

The Manser Practice was started, like so many others, from the spare room of the Manser family house with Michael Manser and two others producing a series of modern houses in the home counties.

Churches, factories and shops followed with Thorncroft Manor in Leatherhead getting worldwide publicity and a series of awards including RIBA – it is now listed. Other notable buildings of this period include Waterlooville Baptist Church, the Howard House in Kent and the Schild House.

Michael Manser was president of the RIBA from 1983-1985 during which time the institute celebrated its 150th anniversary and Prince Charles made his infamous ‘carbuncle’ speech.
