Planning for a 220 bedroom windowless hotel in Hoxton, London
We were appointed by SB2 to develop a new hotel concept, and to design their flagship building in East London.
Our experience in delivering both luxury new-build hotels and cabin concept hotels informed our approach to the brief. The ‘Pocket’ Hotel will offer affordable luxury with small but perfectly formed rooms in great city centre locations.
We have designed a standard 11 sqm room, including ensuite shower room. By adopting a windowless module we can accommodate 220 hotel rooms within a 50, 000 sqft building – twice the number of a conventional hotel. An economic and space efficient solution for tight city centre sites.
The design inspiration for the windowless rooms is a ship’s cabin. Space saving solutions include under-bed storage and wall mounted rails, with teak decking throughout lending the rooms a nautical feel. Public areas will be fully glazed and be informal in character, animating the street façades. At ground floor level, a long bar will serve as reception desk, bar and food counter.
